THRILLING FINALS DECIDE PHYGITAL FOOTBALL AND PHYGITAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS
In the last day of competition at the Games of the Future 2025 powered by ADNOC, champions were being crowned everywhere! Epic finals and third-place play-offs ensured a day of high-quality action.
First up was Phygital Basketball.3on3 Freestyle, where LIGA PRO TEAM (LPT) scored a stunning victory against Moscowsky (BCM) winning 29-23.
The digital stage was a huge boost for LPT who took it 20-11, giving them a great advantage on the court. BCM came out hard but struggled with their rhythm and couldn’t close the gap. As the seconds counted down, the play got frantic on both sides, but LPT held on and took the title 29-23.
Stunned by their victory, Iurii “MAESTRO” Bespalov from LPT told the crowd, “Thank you so much for your support. It means so much.” Asked how the team were going to celebrate, he replied, “Celebrate? We just want to relax!”
Earlier in the day, the third-place match between PBC Astana (AST) and Adria All Stars (AAS) was probably one of the most exciting in the whole tournament and had the stadium on its feet. The score was AST 20-12 after the digital stage and AAS fell behind even further early in the court battle. But with phenomenal effort they clawed their way back to 34-34 with only seconds to spare. But they were denied by a last-gasp basket that put AST over the line, giving them a 35-34 win and third place overall.
Elsewhere in ADNEC, the Phygital Football powered by ADNOC title race also reached its conclusion – with MEXICO QUETZALES-ARMADILLOS FC lifting the trophy following a 2-4 win over Troncos FC.
The crowd at this final couldn’t contain their excitement as football chants echoed around the stadium for both sides. In the digital match, however, neither club could break through until – in the very last minute – MEXICO QUETZALES-ARMADILLOS FC curled the ball into the top corner for a 0-1 advantage.
Troncos FC broke back as soon as the physical stage started with a goal direct from kick-off and held off MEXICO QUETZALES ARMADILLOS FC until halftime when the team from Central America sank another one in the net. In the second half, Troncos FC equalised and it looked like going to a penalty shoot-out until MEXICO QUETZALES ARMADILLOS FC scored again two minutes from the whistle and held on to their lead for a 2-4 win.
Delighted with their win and being named champions, Luis Eduardo ‘’EDU’’ Maldonado Langle from MEXICO QUETZALES-ARMADILLOS FC said: “Well, I think that from the day we arrived, we had our goal very clear—always play with a lot of humility and teamwork, truly respecting every team and every player. We knew they were a strong team, but we never stopped running or fighting.”
Speaking for a disappointed Troncos FC, Gerard ‘’NOLLA’’ Nolla I Salvans said, “Of course we’re disappointed. We played our hearts out. We left everything out there and we really wanted to win. But I’m proud of everything we have achieved here. It’s been an amazing experience. But I just wish the final result was different."
Earlier in the day, La Crema overcame Z10 to secure their third place in the competition.
La Crema, who lost their semi-final on penalties, took an early lead against Z10 in the first half of the digital, but for the rest of the game no one was able to produce a final pass. So, La Crema had a one-point advantage as they took to the pitch in front of a pumped-up crowd.
Z10 struck back immediately on the field with a beautifully constructed team goal but hit the bar just before halftime – missing an open goal. La Crema quickly equalised to take the lead and, under intense pressure, held onto their slim advantage to seal the win 1-2.
La Crema player Simón Nicolás ‘’ PINO’’ Perrone was pleased with the result, but couldn't hide his disappointment at the overall placing.
“The truth is, we came here with the ambition to be champions, and we prepared ourselves for that,” he said. “I think, particularly in the second half of the competition, we fell just short in a few key moments. In the end, we finished third but we enjoyed the experience. We competed every day, and I’m proud of what we achieved. I hope to come back and play here again.”
