Introducing Phygital Football powered by ADNOC

Phygital Football powered by ADNOC is an innovative sport that blends the excitement of digital gaming with the physical energy of traditional soccer. Clubs face off in two stages – firstly in a video game on the screen and then on the pitch – creating a fast-paced and dynamic competition. This combination makes the sport thrilling for both gamers and athletes, offering a unique way to experience the best of both worlds. Combining strategy, teamwork, and competition, Phygital Football has something for everyone.

How It Works

Teams

Each participating club has at least 5, and no more than 8, athletes – including at least 1 goalkeeper. Players aged over 16 can take part in it.

Competition Format

There are 16 clubs participating in the competition – divided into four groups of 4 clubs, playing in a GSL without a 5th match format. The groups are decided by a draw.

Each match is played in two parts:

Digital Stage: In this stage, there are four players in each club competing in a video game on console. Two compete in the first half, two in the second half. Each half is 4 minutes in length. Participants play in special in-game teams created for the competition.

Physical Stage: On the field, clubs play with four outfield players and one goalkeeper, while up to three other athletes from each club are substitutes. A match may not start or resume if either club has fewer than three players. The same club that kicked off the Digital Stage are required to kick-off the Physical Stage. There are two halves of “clean time”, each five minutes long. There is an interval between each half of 3 minutes.

Goals from both stages are combined and the winner is the club with the most goals. If the score is tied, the match is decided by a real-life penalty shoot-out where clubs take three kicks each from the 6m mark. If the score is still tied after three penalty kicks each, penalties continue until one team has scored one more goal than the other with the same number of shots taken.
