How It Works

Game details

Teams will play Dota 2 in Captains Mode, following official tournament settings. Each match is overseen by referees who monitor compliance with competition regulations.

Competition Format

The 8 teams are divided into two groups of 4, playing in a GSL with a 5th match format. The groups are decided by a draw.
Group placements and first round are decided by a draw. In this system, teams can play up to three matches to determine their final ranking within the group.

Following a Double Elimination format, all four teams from each group advance to the playoff stage. Teams placing first and second move to the Winners Bracket, while third- and fourth-place teams compete in the Losers Bracket. The tournament progresses through winners’ semifinals, losers’ rounds, the winners’ final, the losers’ final, and the Grand Final. The winner of the Grand Final is crowned the Competition champion.

All matches are played in a 5x5 (five on five) format in Best-of-Three (Bo3) series. The Grand Final is also played as a Bo3. Coaches may only communicate with the team during the drafting (the stage of choosing heroes) phase. All matches are played in LAN conditions to ensure fairness and competitive integrity.

Teams

Each team can have up to 6 athletes. At GOTF 2025, all the competing teams have 5 athletes, comprising of well-known streamers and pro-gamers.

Order of picks

For match format Bo3 (best of three).

  • First Game: Selected by a coin flip. The winner of the coin flip chooses the side or order of picks for which their team will participate in the first game.
  • Second Game: The priority switches, the other team gets to choose.
  • Third Game: Selected by a coin flip. The winner of the coin flip chooses the side or order of picks for which their team will participate in the third game.
