Introducing Phygital Drone Racing
This isn’t just Drone Racing… this is Phygital Drone Racing presented by InsuranceMarket.ae, where clubs have to excel in delivering the fastest and most precise performance both in a digital simulation and on a physical course. It requires precision, lightning-fast reactions and the ability to perform under pressure. The result is a fast-paced, non-stop action experience for both participants and spectators.
How It Works
Clubs
Each club has 2 athletes.
Competition Format
There are 16 clubs participating in the competition, which has a Qualification Stage and then a Main Stage.
During the Qualification Stage, clubs participate in a time trial using a "VelociDrone FPV Simulator" technical simulator on a PC, which simulates the main stage track. Team members must complete the virtual air-sports track consecutively (in a relay format). Each member is required to complete three (3) laps, resulting in a total of six (6) laps per team. Each club then has three attempts to complete the qualification stage and achieve their fastest time. The club’s result is their fastest combined time taken by all the club members to complete the virtual air-sports track (including the time required for pilot changeover).
Once all clubs have completed their qualification stage, they are assigned their final rankings in Qualification stage based on each club’s fastest time – with the fastest club ranked 1st down and so on.
The Main Stage starts with the quarterfinals stage with 4 clubs competing in each heat, organised according to the qualification stage rankings. The top two clubs from each heat then go through to the semifinals and then the top two clubs from each semifinal, qualify for the final.
Progression is determined through an elimination system, with participants flying the circuit with a drone against the clock. Each heat consists of 50 laps of the circuit, with each club’s athletes required to complete 25 laps each.
The club’s first pilot completes the first 25 (twenty-five) laps of the race from the Start Area. Then they goes to the club’s drone maintenance Pit Stop Area.
The club’s second pilot starts the race in the club’s drone maintenance Pit Stop Area and stays there until the club’s first pilot completes 25 (twenty-five) laps. Then they go to the Start Area to replace the first pilot there.
Pit stops are allowed for battery replacement or drone repair. Each club has a fixed amount of 3 drones to complete 50 (fifty) laps.
